As long as I have any choice, I will stay only in a country where political liberty, toleration, and equality of all citizens before the law are the rule.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Q: Know how copper wire was invented?
A: Two lawyers were fighting over a penny.

Most people don’t like lawyers, and jokes about lawyers have been popular for hundreds of years. We can understand why. When viewed from the outside, the law and legal institutions can seem unnecessarily complex and forbidding. It is easy to assume that the whole system is designed to intimidate ordinary people rather than protect them. Just imagine though, what sort of society would we have if the rule of law didn’t apply?

At Garrick Law we believe that a strong, independent and fair justice system is one of the corner-stones of our civilisation.

We believe that anyone accused of a crime has the right to fair process and a fair trial, and has the right to have a lawyer guide them through the system and speak on their behalf.

We believe that dealings between individuals, and between individuals and companies, should be regulated so that disputes can be settled fairly, according to fundamental rules, rather than through power and intimidation.

Above all, we believe that the state – and agents of the state – have a duty to treat citizens impartially and fairly, and that it is a lawyer’s duty to stand up for those citizens against bullying and persecution.

Garrick Law supports the World Justice Project, and we sign up to their four basic principles defining the rule of law:
Accountability.
The government as well as private actors are accountable under the law.
Just Laws. The laws are clear, publicized, and stable; are applied evenly; and protect fundamental rights, including the security of persons and contract, property, and human rights.
Open Government.
The processes by which the laws are enacted, administered, and enforced are accessible, fair, and efficient.
Accessible & Impartial Dispute Resolution.
Justice is delivered timely by competent, ethical, and independent representatives and neutrals who are accessible, have adequate resources, and reflect the makeup of the communities they serve.

The UK currently ranks 12th on the WJP International Rule of Law Index. That is better than most, but we want the UK to be first in this ranking, and to provide an example to the rest of the world.

What does this mean for you?
Garrick Law’s team of barristers and solicitors take our duty to our clients, and to the law, very seriously. We represent our clients to the best of our ability, no matter what they are accused of, and no matter how powerful their opponent. We explain in clear terms how their case is progressing, and keep them regularly updated. We keep our fees reasonable and clear, and keep our administration fees as low as possible, passing these savings on to our clients. Most of all, we will not be bullied, and will stand up to bullies whenever necessary. This is what we stand for, and this is why so many of our clients recommend Garrick Law to others.
